FOUNDATION FOR PLUMBING COURSE OBJECTIVE: The objective of the plumbing project is to provide students with practical knowledge and skills in plumbing, enabling them to understand the basics of plumbing systems and perform basic plumbing tasks. Through hands- on experiences, students will learn about different types of pipes, fittings, and fixtures, as well as essential plumbing techniques and safety practices. They will gain an understanding of how plumbing systems work, including water supply, drainage, and venting. The project aims to equip students with the necessary skills to handle basic plumbing repairs and installations, promoting self-reliance and practical problem-solving abilities. They will learn how to fix leaky faucets, unclog drains, and replace plumbing fixtures. The project also emphasizes the importance of safety precautions when working with plumbing systems and provides guidance on proper tool usage. By the end of the project, students will have a solid foundation in plumbing knowledge and skills, enabling them to address minor plumbing issues in their homes or potentially pursue further studies or careers in the plumbing industry. COURSE OUTLINE: Class 1-5: Introduction to Plumbing Tools and Materials Introduce basic plumbing tools like a plunger and an adjustable wrench. Familiarize students with common plumbing materials such as PVC pipes, fittings, and washers. Demonstrate safe usage and handling techniques for these tools. Engage students in a hands-on exercise where they assemble and disassemble simple pipe connections using pre-cut materials and basic tools. Class 6-8: Understanding Basic Plumbing Systems and Components Introduce different plumbing fixtures like faucets, toilets, and sinks. Explain the function and identification of basic plumbing components such as traps and supply lines. Teach basic plumbing measurements and calculations including pipe sizing and water flow. Provide a hands-on exercise where students explore and identify basic plumbing components in a simulated plumbing system setup. Class 9-10: Installation and Repair Skills Teach techniques for installing and connecting plumbing fixtures such as faucets and traps. Introduce common plumbing repairs like fixing a leaky faucet and clearing a clogged drain. Demonstrate and allow the practice of basic pipe joining methods, including the use of compression fittings. Engage students in a hands-on exercise where they install and repair plumbing fixtures while addressing common plumbing issues. Class 11-12: Advanced Plumbing Concepts and Problem-Solving Introduce advanced plumbing systems such as hot water systems and irrigation systems. Enhance understanding of more complex plumbing components like water heaters and pressure regulators. Teach troubleshooting methods for common plumbing problems like slow drains and running toilets. Provide hands-on exercises involving problem-solving scenarios with advanced plumbing concepts and addressing common plumbing issues. E xplore sustainable plumbing practices and the integration of eco-friendly technologies, such as rainwater harvesting systems and water-efficient fixtures, to promote environmental conservation and resource efficiency.
