Through hands-on experiences, students will learn woodworking techniques, safety practices, and the use of tools. The project aims to ignite a passion for woodworking, develop spatial awareness, and empower students to create functional and visually appealing wooden projects. By engaging in hands-on woodworking activities, students will have the opportunity to unleash their creativity, explore different woodworking techniques, and solve design challenges. They will develop a keen sense of spatial awareness, honing their ability to visualize and bring their ideas to life in three dimensions. Through the woodworking project, students will not only gain practical skills but also cultivate patience, perseverance, and attention to detail. They will learn to appreciate the craftsmanship and artistry involved in woodworking while also understanding the importance of safety and proper tool usage. The project fosters a sense of accomplishment and self-expression, empowering students to embrace their creativity and develop lifelong skills in woodworking. COURSE OUTLINE: Class 1-5: Introduction to Carpentry Tools and Materials Introduce basic hand tools used in carpentry, such as hammers, hand saws, and screwdrivers. Demonstrate safe handling techniques for these tools. Familiarize students with basic carpentry materials like wood, nails, and screws. Engage students in a hands-on exercise where they create simple woodworking projects using pre-cut materials and hand tools. Class 6-8: Essential Carpentry Techniques and Joinery Introduce fundamental carpentry joints like the butt joint and miter joint. Teach measuring, marking, and cutting techniques using hand tools. Provide hands-on exercises where students build small projects using basic joinery techniques and hand tools. Encourage creative problem-solving by challenging students to adapt basic joinery techniques to construct unique and personalized woodworking projects. Class 9-10: Intermediate Carpentry Skills and Construction Principles Introduce power tools used in carpentry, including cordless drills and jigsaws. Demonstrate and allow the practice of safe usage of power tools. Explore simple joinery techniques like the pocket hole joint and dowel joint. Apply construction principles such as squaring and leveling. Engage students in a hands-on exercise where they construct a small piece of furniture or a wooden structure using intermediate carpentry skills and basic joinery techniques. Class 11-12: Advanced Carpentry Techniques and Finishing Introduce advanced hand tools like the block plane and chisels. Explore advanced carpentry techniques such as router work and sanding techniques. Introduce finishing techniques such as staining and varnishing. Provide hands- on exercises where students build more complex projects using advanced carpentry skills and techniques. Focus on proper finishing techniques to achieve a polished final product. In addition, emphasize the importance of proper wood selection and grain orientation for advanced carpentry projects, as well as the use of advanced techniques like inlay work and decorative joinery to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the final piece.
