FOUNDATION FOR FIRST AID AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS COURSE OBJECTIVE: The objective of the first aid and emergency preparedness project is to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond effectively in emergency situations and provide basic first aid care. Through interactive learning experiences, students will delve into various aspects of emergency response, including understanding common medical emergencies, conducting injury assessments, learning CPR and AED usage, and mastering emergency response procedures. The first aid and emergency preparedness project aims to develop student’s confidence and competence in administering first aid, managing emergencies, and promoting safety in diverse settings. Additionally, students will learn about the importance of emergency preparedness, including creating emergency plans, assembling emergency kits, and comprehending disaster response protocols. The project sets students on a path to becoming responsible and capable individuals ready to respond effectively in unforeseen circumstances. They will be empowered to provide vital assistance, promote safety, and play a crucial role during times of crisis. COURSE OUTLINE: Class 1-5: Introduction to Basic First Aid Learn the importance of first aid in emergencies and acquire essential skills. Topics include recognizing emergencies, seeking help, and providing comfort. Discover how to respond to common injuries like cuts, bruises, and nosebleeds. Emphasize personal safety and when to involve adults. Class 6-8: First Aid for Common Emergencies Expand your first aid skills with more advanced techniques and learn how to handle a range of emergencies. Topics include burns, sprains, choking, allergies, and more. Introduction to CPR and hands-only techniques for cardiac emergencies. Familiarize yourself with automated external defibrillator (AED) usage if available, empowering you to respond effectively in critical situations. Class 9-10: Emergency Preparedness and Response Learn essential emergency preparedness skills and create a comprehensive family emergency plan. Explore various types of emergencies, including natural disasters and fires, and discover appropriate responses and actions. Develop basic survival skills such as finding shelter, gathering supplies, and establishing communication during crises. Expand your first aid knowledge with techniques for severe injuries like controlling bleeding and stabilizing fractures. Gain confidence in your ability to handle emergencies and become an asset in your community's preparedness efforts. Class 11-12: Advanced First Aid and Community Preparedness Master advanced first aid techniques for managing complex injuries, including head and spinal injuries, medical emergencies, and severe trauma. Acquire the skills necessary to provide first aid in remote or wilderness settings, where professional medical help may be limited. Explore the importance of community-wide emergency preparedness and the critical role individuals play in assisting during disasters. Learn how to conduct basic triage to prioritize care during mass casualty incidents and become a competent leader in emergency response scenarios. Develop leadership skills for effective disaster management.
